UGC Announces Major Academic Reforms for 2025-26

UGC Introduces Flexible Multiple Entry & Exit System

Effective from Academic Year 2025-26

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has introduced a transformative Multiple Entry and Exit System for both undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) programs, effective from the academic year 2025-26. This initiative, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, aims to enhance flexibility and student autonomy in higher education.

Key Features

Multiple Exit Points

Students can exit their course after 1, 2, 3, or 4 years, earning a Certificate, Diploma, General Degree, or Honours Degree, respectively.

Academic Bank of Credits

All credits earned will be digitally stored in the ABC system, allowing for easy transfer and accumulation across universities.

Dual Degree Programs

Students can pursue two full-time degrees simultaneously (UG or PG), even from different institutions or in different modes (offline, online, distance).

Biannual Admissions

To reduce waiting times, institutions will now offer admissions twice a year, in January/February and July/August.

Empowering Students’ Academic Journey

These reforms provide students with unprecedented flexibility, allowing them to customize their educational paths according to their needs and aspirations.
